Chengoni Eye Camp 2010

After a successful eye camp in November last year, Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya in conjunction with Kwale District Eye Centre organized yet another eye camp on Monday 19th July 2010 to assist more patients who were in need of these services.

People of different ages with various eye problems gathered early in the morning at Al Mahdy Centre, Samburu with rays of hope in their hearts.

A total of 107 patients were screened and relevant treatment provided.

Blind in both eyes, the 65-year old was led to the screening room by her niece. She could not go anywhere without a sighted guide, as that was what she had resorted to after being blind for more than a year.

She had operations on both her eyes and the dense cataracts removed. She later reported that her niece was free to marry, since there was nothing to hold her back now.

 Chizigwa—13 years

Accompanied by his father, Chizigwa was brought to the camp after injury of his right eye 4 months ago. He was herding his father’s goats when they got rowdy and drove him to a thicket that pierced his eye. Vision in this eye was totally lost.

Brave enough, the 13 year old had surgery on his right eye under local anesthesia. His father was happy that his son was able to see well in the injured eye.

The shy Chizigwa, whose father said that he rarely smiles, could be seen with a twinkle in his eyes, expressing the joy he felt for getting his sight back to his right eye.
