The Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya honored the sacrifices of Imam Hussain (a.s) during Muharram 2024/1446 AH through a series of impactful events and activities. Swahili majalis were held at 15 Bilal centres and 38 independent centers to whom we extended support as well as at the Bilal Hall in Mombasa. These sessions centered around themes such as struggle and resistance, proper upbringing of children, and the significant roles of women in Islam.
In the rural centers, daily majalis continued until Ashura, featuring separate sessions for youth and ladies, as well as larger community gatherings which drew an average attendance of 125 people in smaller centres and 225 individuals in larger centres. Notably, some centers organized larger majalis and processions on the weekend following Ashura, which drew an impressive number of devotees.
The Bilal Hall Majalis saw approximately 185 individuals participating in daily sessions for men, and around 100 women and children in sessions for women. On Ashura Day, a combined session was held for the special supplications of Ashura followed by majlis. 280 individuals participated. These sessions were live-streamed, extending their reach to diverse audiences and fostering inter-sect dialogue.
Additionally, Sister Ruiya Salim from our Tabligh Department conducted daily Zoom sessions for women at the rural centers, with an average attendance of 350 participants. These sessions focused on the responsibility of women in uplifting themselves and their families, emphasizing child upbringing and making our children ‘Husaini’.
