Access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene is the most basic human need for health and well-being and is a human right. In addition to being essential for health, water also plays a vital role in poverty reduction, food security and ecosystems. However, the water naturally available in and around the coastal regions of Kenya is not usable fresh water and water availability is becoming less predictable for many Kenyans, with droughts exacerbating water scarcity. Investing in infrastructure and sanitation facilities to ensure access to clean sustainable water and adequate sanitation facilities in underserved communities is a priority for us at Bilal Kenya. 13 fully operational solar-powered water desalination plants producing up to 4,000 litres of potable water per hour have already been installed at our centres, opening up a new era of health and safety for the local communities residing there.
