Vocational Training in the Villages
In order to empower the women in the villages, the Mission runs tailoring classes five days a week in Mackinon Road and Chengoni Rural Centres. The course that is being offered is as per the Government Syllabus.
As the women in the villages have to work on farms and attend to other household chores the classes run in two sessions i.e morning and afternoon. Currently there are more than 30 students enrolled in the two centres. On completion of this course the student will have to appear for the Directorate of Industrial Test (Trade Test) for Level 1, 2 and 3. On successful completion of all the levels the student is now ready to be a professional tailoring teacher or can work in any garment factory and earn a good income.
Currently some of the students can now stitch or mend simple dresses which help them to earn a small amount to support their course. The students are benefiting from this course as most of them are drop outs from school due to various reasons and are able to support their family.
